OUR TEAM

Behind VOLTA - Twists and Turns stands an interdisciplinary and multi-cultural team of over 20 people. Most of the team members are of Voltarian and Ghanaian descent, besides that a Dutchman gives is full dedication in the daily operations of the project.

The Board of Directors consists of 5 people (4 Voltarians and 1 Dutchman). The other team-member support the Advisory Panel (15 Voltarians and Ghanaians).

​

With our mixed European and African background we are able to build bridges between cultures. So, do we have different views on all kind of topics, which supplements each other.

Personal information about the main people behind this initiative:

Rick Brinks

Rick is born in 1995 in The Netherlands and still living there, currently in the city of Utrecht. Rick did his Bachelor Degree in Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and graduated in 2016. As part of this degree, Rick travelled a lot, did his minor in Archaeology at the Reading University in the UK and did his Bachelor research in Kenya. In Kenya he investigated the impact of tourism on the culture of the Maasai tribe. After his BSc, Rick continued his career studying a Masters Degree in International Development Studies. During this study, he specialized more in tourism and conservation while conducting a 4 month research-internship in Ghana with the Development Institute in Ho, V/R (spring 2017). The specific assignment was exploring the sustainable tourism potential in the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site, in the southern part of the Volta Region. He developed a broad network in tourism and conservation in Ghana. Rick has a main interest in (sustainable) tourism, nature conservation and local community development.
